The AFL Mock Draft room, opened on the American League. Breadcrumbs read Home / Draft / Mock Draft / Session, above a row of draft tabs β€” Draft, Order, Results, Broadcast, Room, Mock, Rankings, My List β€” with Mock highlighted in red. A note beneath reads that the board is drafting from the American League's available pool and that players kept in the NL are still draftable here. A dark banner says β€œWaiting for draft to begin…” with Go Back, Pause and Reset Draft buttons. Under it the draft board offers nine round tabs, Rd 1 through Rd 9, with Rd 1 selected, and tabs for Players, Queue and Chat. The Players pane is headed AVAILABLE with a count of 1109, a search box, position filters, and a list of available players led by C.J. Stroud, Sam Darnold and Malik Willis.

The AFL Mock Draft Knows Who You Kept

Nine rounds against the clock, drafting from the players your conference actually left unkept β€” not a generic board, not last year's names. It opens when the keeper cuts land in July and closes when the real draft starts, because those are the only weeks it tells you anything true.

The Full Story

The League has had a mock draft for a while. Running the same thing for the AFL would have been a morning's work and completely useless, because the AFL doesn't draft rookies off a fixed board β€” it drafts whoever twelve owners decided not to keep. A mock that doesn't know that is just a list of famous people.

So this one starts from your keepers and works backwards. Every draftable player, minus the seven each of your conference's twelve teams held onto. What's left is the board β€” and this year that's a little over eleven hundred names in the American League, which is a real number rather than a round one.

The part that took the longest is the part nobody will notice. MyFantasyLeague lets a player sit on one roster per conference, and the AFL leans on that hard: of the eighty-four men the AL kept this July, sixty are also kept in the National League. The same guy went first overall in both drafts. So the pool subtracts your conference's rosters and only yours β€” do it league-wide and you quietly delete twenty-four players the AL is perfectly free to draft, and the board still looks fine, which is the worst kind of wrong.

It also drafts in the right shape. Nine rounds, and the same order every round β€” no snake, because the AFL doesn't snake β€” pulled straight from MFL's own slots so traded picks land where they really land. The bots pick off redraft ADP, or dynasty, or your own draft list, or pure chaos if you want to see what happens when the room loses its mind. You pick your conference at the top, the same way the draft room does.

And it tells you when it's not worth running. Before the cuts, the board is still holding a hundred players who are about to be released, so it stays shut and names the teams it's waiting on. Once the real draft starts, it shuts again and points you at the big board. The window is roughly mid-July to draft weekend β€” which, if you were wondering why it's closed today, is the honest answer. It's sitting with the rest of the tools on the draft hub, next to the order, one click away.
