Possibly a change in scoring

Postby amutt on Mon Feb 11, 2008 10:40 pm

I think that adding return yards to scoring would be a good Idea. This would add more value to some of the player that a boarder line starters and gives you more options on bye weeks. I know that return yard can be more plentiful because ever kick-off you get normally 20 yards, but if we could create a scoring system where every 40 yards = 1 point or even something like the kicker scoring per attempt for ex. 0 to 29 yards no points 30 to 40 yards .5 point 41 to 50 1 point and so on to 100 yards being 3 points. I think this would add another fun element to the league. :football:

All the other leagues I am in use return yards for punts and kickoffs. We also award 6 pt for a touchdown for any return man scoring a TD. We are careful not to award a return td twice (ie to a defense/st), but only to the player who scored it.
We use 1 point for every 20 yards returned. Really adds an exciting element to our leagues, and I would consider it a must for 12 team leagues where player rosters can get thin during bye weeks and such.

As for the kicker, I am fine with the way that is scored as is.

Sorry, for the confusion about the kicker deal what I mean is that we could score returns like kicker ex. the longer the return the more points, and for small returns no points because a returner normally gets 20 yards off of a kick return.

Another league that I'm in is toying with this idea and they were going to use .03 points per return yard. It doesn't dramatically effect scoring but does boost some WR3/RB3 type guys. I think the best game last year was Sproles with 220 yards, 6.6 fantasy points with that scoring, I think the best guys in the league were averaging 3-4 PPG in return yards.

Most leagues I'm in award points also in this case. One league I'm in actually has a KR postition that scores like CB and WR but if the player is his WR or CB position that scoring is reduced to 1/4 the normal points awarded for return yards. In the same when that same player is in his KR postition he gets full credit for Return points and only 1/4 points awarded for his other playing position. I'm actually running that same philosophy in the league that I run for that same postition in 2009.

Here is what we did last year in the other league I commish with the same scoring system.

http://football13.myfantasyleague.com/2 ... &YEAR=2009

That was Percy Harvin in week 1, basically 3 points for 100 yards not enough to tilt the scales but enough to add value to the right players particularly the younger guys and it adds a little depth to the overall talent pool.

Hopefully we can get some more input and we can put this up for a vote later this season.

I like it, but I don't want to dilute the defensive scoring at the same time. Could we keep the DST scoring the same and add this?

Not a big fan of giving points to return men, but no major beef with the yards thing. I want to know what the plan is for the TD on a return.

Not sure what the rule is right now, but if a TD is scored on a return, I assume it goes against the defense/special team that gave it up. If that is correct, I think any TD return points for the score have to go to the defense/special team unit that scored the points rather than the return man.

not opposed to a system that gives a few points to guys that also return kick/punts but it definitely has to be at a smaller scale. I got in a last minute league with friends for shits and giggles last year and return yards counted the same as regular yards. That was a complete mess.

Can it be set that you only get kick return points after 10- 15 yards? Let's face it, those first yards are free and you're really only earning it after you cross the 15-20 yd line since you can take knee in the end zone and be at the 20.

If we add this scoring should we also add scoring to the team defense/ST or kicker for kicks that result in a touchback since they aren't giving up yards?
