IR spots, ammending the amount of IR spots

Postby amutt on Mon Jan 14, 2008 11:48 pm

I propose that we increase the amount of IR spots on the current roster from only 1 to 4 or more and only allow players that are tagged IR to be placed on this list. For ex. no P,Q or O only IR like in the NFL. The one spot cursed me because I had at one point 4 players on IR and only 1 spot to put them in. beer.gif

A couple thoughts:
- Limiting it to only those players on the NFL's IR is pretty severe. We have 9 of 16 players starting in a given week. If that week happens to be a bye AND we have a couple of injuries on our team, that pretty much leaves you with nowhere to have a sleeper guy for later in the season or a handcuff to one or two key guys.

- As long as the offseason is still limited to a 16-man roster (including associated minimum starting requirements at every position), I don't necessarily have a problem with increasing the number of IR spots. I'd hate to see a situation though where a couple of more active teams were loading up their IR with injured "studs" simply to bolster their offseason roster for the following year.

If we did what you are saying Mutt, I'd like to see our rosters expanded to 17 or so. I think that combination would probably work.

If we had unlimited IR spots and those could only be used for players actually on the IR, I would think the only way you could "load up" would be if you own players were injured. You couldn't really add "stud" IR guys off the waiver since the true studs would never be dropped with a rule like this.

From a commish standpoint it would be easier if the only players that could be IR'd were actually on the IR list. Players listed as "out" does, at times, leave a little gray area.

I think this will work with the 16 roster spots and then add 2 spots for people who are offically on IR according to the nfl, and then have 2 spots open for guys who are "out" or "inactive" or "doubtful" for that given week. I know with the bye weeks it does make it hard if you have more than one player hurt.

It's not really feasible to have different rules for the IR spots. MFL doesn't allow you to do that automatically so we would have to manual police that.

What if we had a set number of weeks a player had to be on IR in conjunction with expanded the limit. You could keep it, "IR or Out" have 2-4 spots but a severe penalty like 4-6 weeks that they have to be on the IR for. This would in effect, be meaningless for players actually on the IR, but would add a strategy element to those players listed as Out and limit its ability to be mis-used as a free way to stash players. Real similar to what the NFL does currently with the PUP list I belive.

This method is fully supported by MFL so would be policed automatically, my favorite part :sweet:

I would like this idea. I would also suggest a maximum slots allowed of two for any IR or Out. Anymore than that and your roster would like a wing at the Mayo Clinic...

I agree with Dave, even though he is a Pats fan. Mandatory time on the IR but keep it to 2 spots. 4 is a bit extreme. I understand that injuries can stack up, but that is part of the game.
